H.265 4K NVR (Network Video Recorder) Knowledge Introduction

Since 2015, many famous China network video recorder manufacturers have released their H.265 4K NVR(Video Network Recorder), that indicates  surveillance market will enter H.265 4K extra high definition new generation.

What is H.265 and its benefits

H.265 is a new generation of video coding standard that can transmit higher quality video in limited bandwidth network, only half of the original bandwidth, you can play the same quality video.
H.265 standard around the existing video coding standard H.264, some retain the original technology, but to improve on a number of related technologies. The new technology uses advanced technology to improve relations stream, encoding quality, and delay between algorithm complexity, optimize settings.

In the same resolution, H.265 standard only need the half  of  H.264 bandwidth. At the same picture quality as compared to H.264, H.265 encoded video by reducing the size of approximately 39-44%. Due to the different measurement methods of quality control, this data will be a corresponding change. Obtained by subjective visual test data show that the rate reduction in 51-74% of cases, the quality of video coding H.265 to H.264 encoded video also similar or even better. H.265 will analyze whether there is movement in each frame of the picture, then there is no change in the partially compressed. If the frame is still more higher the compression ratio, since most videos are part of 90% does not change, so that the compression efficiency of the compression ensures increased without lowering the picture quality.

What is 4K resolution?
4K resolution is  4096 × 2160 pixel resolution, which is four times the resolution of 1080P high-definition , are ultra-HD resolution. In the monitoring system, if amazing 4096 × 2160 pixels, the user can see the monitor screen in every detail.
In the field of digital technology, usually binary, but with the pixels of the image to describe the size of the digital image. Due to the large number of pixels constituting a digital image, K is usually expressed. 2 of 10 power of 1024, therefore: 1K = 2 ^ 10 = 1024,2K = 2 ^ 11 = 2048,4K = 2 ^ 12 = 4096.

In the digital cinema applications, typically 2K image by 2048 × 1080 pixels constituted, wherein 2048 indicates the number of pixels in the horizontal direction, 1080 indicates the number of pixels in the vertical direction; 4K image is 4096 × 2160 pixels constituted, wherein 4096 represents the number of pixels in the horizontal direction, 2160 represents the number of pixels in the vertical direction.

What are the benefits of 4K resolution?

With the development of image processing technology and image clarity people have become increasingly demanding, video surveillance systems increasingly high resolution. From the traditional standard definition resolution, to the network after megapixels, millions of pixels are now moving in the direction of development. 4K resolution can provide bigger monitoring range and more details,  to help solve the case, the accuracy rate of intelligence analysis.
4K cameras can provide greater monitoring range, a 4K camera can replace several conventional SD cameras, it is possible to reduce the number of surveillance cameras, reducing the monitoring system

H.265 and 4K relationship
With the improvement of the resolution, the amount of image data is also growing, if it continues to use the traditional method of video compression, will bring huge challenges of network bandwidth and data storage, can provide more than H.264 and H.265 high nearly double the compression ratio, under the same image quality, only half of the bandwidth, H.265 is ideal for ultra-high resolution video transmission and storage.

Which Chinese suppliers can provide H.265 4K NVR?
Currently, only a few of China DVR / NVR manufacturers can offer H.265 4K network video recorder, For example Hikvision, Dahua, Sysvideo.
